Independent Publisher v1.5

Independent Publisher v1.5 has been released. This release includes a new translation (Russian), 2 new features, and 2 bug fixes.

Here’s the changelog:

  • New Feature: Auto-Set Featured Image as Post Cover. There is a new “Auto-Set Featured Image as Post Cover” option in Appearance -> Customize -> General Options. When enabled, the featured image selected for a post will automatically become the Post Cover. This saves time by not needing to check the “Use as post cover” option in the Featured Image meta box. When this option is enabled, you can disable the Post Cover on a post-by-post basis using the “Disable post cover” checkbox that appears in the Featured Image meta box. See Issue #86.
  • New Feature: Single Posts menu location. If you want your Single posts menu to be different than your Primary navigation menu, you can now create a new menu and assign it to the Single Posts menu location. See Issue #87.
  • New Translation: Russian translation (thanks to Артем Рябков).
  • Bug Fix: Added missing Featured Image support from Single posts. This was accidentally removed in an earlier update. If you have a featured image, and you’re not using it as the Post Cover, it will now properly appear at the top of the post. See Issue #90.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a bug with oEmbeds not working on Quote and Aside Post Formats. See Issue #91.

If you installed the theme from WordPress.org, you should see a notification to update the theme from within your WordPress Dashboard (Dashboard -> Updates). Otherwise, you can download v1.5 from WordPress.org.

  1. Hello Raam, I started using Independent Publisher today because it looks like a great theme for a text-orientated, publishing-centred blog. Even though I’m very happy with it so far, I have a special request. Can you explain how to make the font size for the main post text smaller? I’m quite wordy and the font size is a little too big for me. I’m a complete newb and I think I have to go in and edit the CSS. Can you put up a tutorial? Thanks!

  2. Hi, Raam. The “display random header image” seems to be broken. If you go to my blog, you’ll see that I have a pair of eyes as my header image. I uploaded another similar image, but with the eyes looking the other way. I thought it would be funny if it looked each way randomly as people visited the site (and maybe someone would notice). Anyway, I set it to random and no image shows. Just an FYI, not a deal breaker. I’ve gotten plenty of complements on the new design of the blog, and I’ve been attributing it all to you.

    • Hey Ren,

Where are you seeing this “display random header image” option? Do you have a plugin that’s adding that functionality? I don’t see it at all in my test installation running the latest version of WordPress.

      • When you “customize” the look of the theme when you first upload it, there is an option to upload the header image (a 100×100 image). There is an option there to upload a second image and then randomize between them.

I’ve looked through my plugins but didn’t find any that did that.

        • I just tested the Randomize Headers and it’s working for me. Did you make sure that the Randomize Headers option was actually selected, i.e., it has the blue border around it? See screenshot below:

          • Yeah. The header disappears when that button is selected and blue, in preview and once the changes are saved. I’ll work on it… I’m sure a plugin is messing with it.

    • Hi Dedi,

I’m happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed the theme! There is no paid version at this time as the theme is completely open-source.

All the best to you in Indonesia.
